ABOUT MIKE
I've always been a nerd driven by curiosity. For me, the camera isn't just a tool—it's a way to learn about the world; every niche community, every new discovery, and every human story I encounter. It has taught me how to capture the truly human moments and tell meaningful stories with scientific clarity and military precision.
Now I try to take those lessons I have learned and put them to good use, capturing photographs for fellow nerds, wanderers, veterans, and entrepreneurs.
My photography is rooted in honest storytelling. I take a documentary, photojournalistic approach, capturing your day exactly as it unfolds—true to the real events, the raw emotions, and the fleeting story telling moments. I steer clear of passing trends and heavy filters in favor of true-to-life color. Guided by sharp focus and strong composition, my goal is to deliver authentic, timeless images that feel less like a posed gallery and more like a living memory."
My career has been a bit of a wild ride to say the least. I started out documenting both training exercises and command level decision making for the U.S. Marine Corps. As an enlisted Marine, I learned to be fast, precise, and how to capture the truth of a moment, even when things were moving in every direction.
After that, I switched gears and spent time working at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, where I worked with the marketing and communications teams. I learned a lot about telling an organizations story, and also picked up a bit of American Sign Language.
Today, my studio is often a NASA cleanroom. I spend my days documenting the integration and testing of spacecraft and special instruments before they are launched into outer-space! I am proud to be the trusted eyes of the projects, helping create the technical and historical visual record of the process.
When I am not at NASA, I am working on my own professional practice. Photographing for businesses, individuals, couples, and organizations of all sizes.
I am also a USVAA colleague. USVAA is a non-profit organization which provides opportunities for veterans in the arts by networking with veterans, artists, supportive individuals, and organizations within the arts and veterans' communities to find funding and support for individual artistic projects in theater, film, television, the visual/fine arts, and a wide variety of crafts.
“I had the pleasure of working with Mike Guinto for my professional headshots, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the results. Mike’s attention to detail, creativity, and ability to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera truly set him apart. He took the time to understand the look I was going for and guided me through the entire process with patience and professionalism. The final photos came out clean, sharp, and exactly what I needed for a polished professional image. I highly recommend Mike to anyone looking for high-quality photography with a personal touch.”
