Photo Guide Infographics

Here are some well organized infographics I found that can help you understand photography! I will be sure to keep updating as I find more.

How to find your heart in the negative(space)

This weekend we decided to go on an impromptu camping trip to the Shenandoah mountains in Virginia.   Despite being caught in traffic and arriving an hour later than we expected, not bringing enough wood to cook dinner, putting the tent up wrong in the dark, forgetting a pot to boil water for coffee in the morning, it was still an amazing trip.

Nothing could go wrong that would make these views any less spectacular (well, besides maybe having no coffee, but being the resourceful wilderness explorers we are, we found a camp store that sold some).  The mountains behind mountains behind mountains created a backdrop to a fantastic weekend.

After our night of epic fails, we packed up early and set out to hike a 5km journey down to some gorgeous waterfalls.

And, we never expected to see this many stars only a few hours from DC.   Who could be mad about eating a balanced dinner of s'mores ( our carbs), trail mix ( some protein), and wine (err...fruit?) when looking up at a sky like that.

All in all, our trip was saved by the beauty of the Shenandoah's.

Advice for the Bride and Groom

Here is a link to another blog that speaks some words of wisdom from a photographer to the bride. Long story short...

If you do not love yourself, you are not going to love any photos of yourself.

July update

Hello all! It has been a while since I have written anything. First I would like to thank you all for the support. Please continue to share my work as much as you can! More and more photos will continue to be posted just keep checking back!

So it is July, I am still living in Washington, D.C.  I may be moving back to NY next month (unless this job I applied for hires me!) Wish me luck because it sounds like a great opportunity. Anyway, I have been busy as ever getting life and work set up for future endeavors. I bought all my new Nikon gear. to include a D750, 4 Lenses, 2 speed lights, diffusers, tripods, bags, straps, filters, and everything in between. Next I am hoping to acquire some monolights to get my studio started!

Recently I have had some people ask for prints. If you are interested let me know! I am researching the best possible solution to start printing my work so that you can take them home!

I am also excited to start taking more night sky photos! I have been taking my camera just about everywhere I go. If you would like to have some photos taken please feel free to email me. We can set up a time and location whether it be for an event, professional portraits, pets, children, I do it all.

I am very excited to continue my work in photography. Whether I get this full time photography job or I go back to school I will always be available for a photo shoot.  If you like what you see on this website, you can subscribe here, or you can follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter all at the bottom of this page!

New Design + Road Tripping

Hello there,

I just found a new layout for my portfolio. I hope you all like it. Now instead of clicking on the individual portfolios, you can see all my work in one clean, colorful page.  If you have any critiques or if you have found any bugs please let me know!

In about an hour I will embark on a  400+ mile road trip up the east coast to NY. (No not the city) I am checking out a couple colleges I have been accepted to. In the fall I will no longer be an Active Duty U.S. Marine, I will be a college student.  I will be finishing my undergrad as an art major and My masters degree will be in education.  However while I am staying in NY going to school, I will also begin freelancing my photography. I will have a small studio near Syracuse, NY and I will be able to cover events, group photos, etc. So keep me in mind if you are in the central NY area.

Lately I have been busy at work down in Washington, D.C. I will be uploading a couple more photos in the near future once they are released for public distribution.  I will be down in this area until August so If you are in the greater National Capital Region and want to collaborate or start a portfolio send me an email.

Remember to add me on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/ and Linkedin by clicking on the icons in the About Me page!

Live Forever

Everything I do is to preserve the most precious memories of peoples lives. Some of you may remember this commercial. Anyway, in case you have never seen the full version. This is one of the many reasons photography is such a universally beautiful medium. Anyone can take a picture. We are documenting the human species so that we can live forever. This is why what I do is so important, this is why I am a photographer.

Fall Update

Hello everyone! The year may be coming to an end in a few months but I am not slowing down! Going to be taking a trip to NYC soon for the Photo Plus Expo! Also I have been doing a lot of learning when it comes to star trails and astro photography. (Timing is everything) I am excited to continue to update you guys with more and more photos! Keep checking back for updates!

This weekend, I even had a studio shoot with an incredible photographer / videographer and editor. Her name is Tammy Hineline. I encourage all of you to check out her website because she is one hell of human being and an even better photojournalist! She can even make my ugly mug look good! Check it out!

Stay busy! Stay hungry! Keep in touch.

New site; New Blog

So I finally came around to building a website for myself. So with it, I might as well build "Mike Guinto's Blog" anyway, hi! My name is Mike, Michael, Mikey, or to some, simply, Guinto.

I have been practicing photography since 2006, and I have been working as a professional photographer since 2011. I am 24 years young this month and I will be 25 when I exit the Marine Corps. I plan on going back to school and working as a free lance photographer while I earn my Masters degree.

Everywhere I go I have the opportunity to meet and photograph some of the most interesting and beautiful people and places and things. I feel I am very fortunate to have the opportunities I have been given as well as being able to learn from the people I work with. I have more experience than your average college student could ever dream of having and I cannot wait to continue on with my passion for photography.

I am going to attempt to update this blog as regularly as I can with updates of where I am working or what I am doing. So stay tuned and keep checking back for more photos and blogs.

If you ever have any questions, comments, critiques, gripes, moans, or complaints, feel free to contact me via email.
